Kinesiology Taping in Gladstone, MO | Potens Wellness Clinic

Support Movement. Reduce Pain. Stay Active.

Kinesiology taping is a supportive, non-restrictive treatment used to reduce pain, improve circulation, and enhance movement. At Potens Wellness Clinic, we use kinesiology tape to help patients in Kansas City stay active while recovering from injury, managing pain, or improving performance—without limiting natural motion.

What Is Kinesiology Taping?

Kinesiology taping involves applying a specialized elastic tape to the skin in specific patterns based on your condition. Unlike traditional athletic tape, kinesiology tape is designed to move with your body, providing support without restricting range of motion.

When applied correctly, kinesiology tape can:

  • Support muscles and joints

  • Improve circulation and lymphatic flow

  • Reduce pain and inflammation

  • Enhance body awareness and movement patterns

This makes it a versatile tool for both recovery and performance.

Conditions Treated with Kinesiology Taping

Kinesiology taping can be used for a variety of conditions, including:

  • Neck pain

  • Upper / Mid back pain

  • Low back pain

  • Shoulder, knee, and joint pain

  • Muscle strains and sprains

  • Sports injuries

  • Swelling and inflammation

  • Postural dysfunction

  • Tendonitis and overuse injuries

Benefits of Kinesiology Taping

Patients often benefit from kinesiology taping in several ways:

  • Pain relief without restricting movement

  • Improved muscle support and joint stability

  • Reduced swelling and inflammation

  • Enhanced recovery between treatments

  • Ability to stay active during the healing process

Because it allows full mobility, it’s especially popular among active individuals and athletes.

What to Expect During Your Visit

Application

  • The skin is cleaned and prepped

  • Tape is applied in specific patterns based on your condition

  • You’ll be guided through movements to ensure proper placement

After Application

  • Tape can typically be worn for several days

  • It is water-resistant and can be worn during daily activities and exercise

  • You may feel a light lifting or supportive sensation on the skin

Does Kinesiology Tape Hurt?

No. The application is painless. Some patients notice a slight pulling or lifting sensation, which is normal and part of how the tape works.

If irritation occurs (which is uncommon), the tape can be removed with the use of an oil (i.e. baby oil, coconut oil, olive oil) to remove the tape. We recommend letting the oil sit for 10-15 minutes before removing the tape. The adhesive is strong and "ripping" the tape off may take some skin along with it.

Your safety is our priority. If assistance is requested, your provider is more than happy to remove the tape for you.

Is Kinesiology Taping Safe?

Yes. Kinesiology taping is safe when applied by a trained professional. It is gentle on the skin and suitable for most individuals.

We will assess your skin sensitivity and condition before applying tape to ensure it is appropriate for you.

We do not recommend removing the tape without applying an oil to the tape and allowing it to sit for 10-15 minutes.

Kinesiology taping is ideal for:

  • Athletes looking to support performance and recovery

  • Individuals with joint or muscle pain

  • Patients recovering from injury

  • People dealing with swelling or inflammation

  • Anyone wanting support without restricting movement
